Basque Park Flats
Design for accommodation bordering Basque park in Newton Auckland. The studio was driven by observing dualism in architecture. Beginning looking at the work of Californian architects against the work of architecture in New Zealand (the Group Architects especially) we developed hybridized designs for that combined concepts in The Rotherham house and Schindler’s How House.

The planning of the space was based on assessing the assigned value of the mass, and recognising the unassigned value of a void which was done through diagrammatic site analysis, iterative model making and sculpture.

The final proposal, was a set of flats, on a divided site for young professionals. The design appearing like a miniature city, pushed the inhabitants outdoors to arrive at a different room. This was to expose you to the outdoors and potentially find relief in the void spaces.
