To be enamoured with the concept of “pure” is too often to consider the sense of the natural and the bucolic beautiful. Yet these desires are confused and distorted for natural supplies are mediated by synthesises that render a perception of the pure - synthetic. Instead we might investigate the possibilities of smells and experiences that are not translations of the natural but are extrapolations of the “everyday” and the deeply synthetic world that it inhabits. The vapour from laundry tumbling in a dryer, the astringency ashphalt in the rain, or the heady synthesis of citronella on a hot evening.
